Journalism & Women Symposium (JAWS) welcomes Jasmine Aguilera as its newest member of the Board of Directors. Aguilera was approved by the board to fill a vacancy from November 2024.
Jasmine Aguilera is a senior health equity reporter and editor at El Tímpano, a California Bay Area nonprofit newsroom covering the region’s Latino and Mayan immigrant communities. She is also currently a StoryReach U.S. fellow with the Pulitzer Center.
Prior, she covered Congress and immigration for TIME Magazine, working from New York City, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. Her work has appeared in KFF Health News, Univision, The New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, and others. She is originally from El Paso, Texas, and currently resides in Oakland, California.
"The chance to collaborate with a network of women who helped pave the way for me to build a career in journalism was one I couldn't pass up,” Aguilera said. “There is still more work to be done to improve this industry, and through JAWS I hope to play my part. I also want to give back as much as I have received from JAWS and its many accomplished members."
