CAMP 2018: Jemele Hill, Elise Hu to keynote

ESPN correspondent Jemele Hill and NPR Seoul bureau chief Elise Hu will be keynote speakers at Journalism and Women Symposium’s Conference and Mentoring Project (CAMP) this year.

Both women have covered and commented on two of the biggest stories of the year — the Trump administration and North Korea.

Hill recently left her position as a SportsCenter anchor to become a senior correspondent and columnist for ESPN’s The Undefeated, which melds sports, race and culture. She began her career in sports reporting at the Raleigh News & Observer, later moving to the Detroit Free Press, Orlando Sentinel and ESPN.

In September, Hill tweeted that President Donald Trump is a “white supremacist,” one month after deadly violence at a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the tweet a “fireable offense.”

Hu is serving at NPR’s first bureau chief in Seoul, covering South Korea, North Korea and Japan. She joined the network in 2011 to work on the StateImpact network, a project with member stations to report on state governments. Previously, Hu was a founding reporter at the nonprofit digital news organization The Texas Tribune.

Join us at CAMP in Welches, Oregon, on Oct. 12-14 to connect with Hu, Hill and other inspiring and dedicated women who have left their mark on the journalism industry.

Hu will speak at the Saturday luncheon, while Hill will give the dinner keynote.

The weekend will also include a great slate of conference programming, including sessions on moving into newsroom management, personal branding, book writing and investigative reporting.
