Lulu Garcia-Navarro – a two-time Peabody Award-winning journalist – is our Saturday evening keynote speaker. With years of experience interviewing world leaders, authors, artists and people living on the front lines of a changing world, Garcia-Navarro was a longtime international correspondent in the Middle East and Latin America and was at NPR for 17 years. Most recently she was the host of “Weekend Edition,” where she reported on everything from #MeToo to immigration to the pandemic. She also was a co-host of the NPR podcast “Up First” and the first Latina at the helm of a flagship show at the broadcaster.

Sunday afternoon, Karen Attiah will close the conference. She is an Opinions columnist for the Washington Post where her writing focuses on race, gender, culture, human rights and international affairs. A former Fulbright Scholar to Ghana, Attiah has reported from Curacao, Nigeria, Germany, and other countries. Her work has appeared in Voice of America, Al Jazeera, Associated Press, Haitian Times, and other international publications. She became the Washington Post’s founding Global Opinions editor in 2016. Recognitions for her writing and commentary include Washingtonian Magazine’s 2021 “Star to Watch” award, the 2019 George Polk Special Award, and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Freedom Writer Award. Karen was the winner of the 2019 Journalist of the Year Award from the National Association of Black Journalists, was named to the 2019 Root 100 list, and was featured in Essence Magazine’s ‘Woke 100’ list for 2019.

Karen is the author of the forthcoming book “Say Your Word, Then Leave”, about murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
