On June 2, JAWS President Jenn Kho was named executive editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, the first woman and person of color to hold the position in the newspaper’s 178-year history.

Jenn is the former managing editor of HuffPost and Guardian US, and a digital media consultant. She’ll be leading the Sun-Times at a pivotal moment for the daily newspaper, which recently transitioned to nonprofit ownership.

Jenn will continue as JAWS president and is looking forward to seeing everyone Sept. 9-11 at the first in-person JAWS CAMP (Conference and Mentoring Project) since 2019, taking place in Austin, Texas.

Jenn says:

“I feel so honored to get to lead the iconic Sun-Times newsroom, and can’t wait to discover everything we can accomplishment together. I’ve finished my third day and I definitely feel like I’ve been drinking from the firehose. I’m just taking in so much information and I know I still have so much more to learn! I’m so excited to find ways to support and uplift such a passionate, talented and hard working bunch of journalists - and help the Sun-Times serve even more of it's community.”

Jenn’s appointment at the Sun-Times is celebrated by the entire JAWS community, with the mission to “advance the professional empowerment and personal growth of women in journalism and advocate for more inclusive coverage of the diverse experiences and cultures that comprise our society.”

We know Jenn as a leader and a visionary who has worked tirelessly to make JAWS a welcoming organization for all journalists, both established and aspiring.
