Membership Coordinator
Position Description
Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) seeks a creative, flexible and entrepreneurial part-time Membership Coordinator. This contract position is ideal for a candidate with membership or nonprofit virtual assistance experience. We require an extremely organized and effective multitasker with strong interpersonal skills who can thrive in a rapidly changing environment as our organization grows. This position is well suited for a mission-driven, dynamic and productive self-starter who thrives in a rapidly changing and growing environment. The Membership Manager will work closely with the JAWS’ Executive Director as part of a small team.

- This is an independent contractor position. The initial contract will begin on or about July 1, 2023, and end on June 30, 2024, with an opportunity to renew.
- This is a half-time role (approximately 20 hours per week). A regular schedule will spread hours throughout the week to provide consistent support coverage, with flexibility for the contractor to set hours.
- Occasional travel and work on weekends and evenings will be required.
- Job Location: The position is fully remote. The contractor must have their own work space, equipment and general office supplies. They will assume all reasonable operational business expenses for this contract work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain administrative files, records and databases, keeping everything organized, up-to-date and operational. This includes JAWS’ Google Drive and Asana files; emails, logins and other technical records; and an organizational calendar for upcoming events and communications.
- Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting.
- Provide staff support to monthly webinars, online learning, the annual conference, and other programs
- Liaise with and support the Board, regional groups and all committees (including Elections, Membership, Programming, CAMP and Fundraising) to help grow and engage members, support membership activities, grow fundraising and support the annual Board election process.
- Help develop and implement new membership engagement campaigns.
- Responsible for all aspects of member database maintenance.
- Set up fundraising campaigns, track donations and communicate with donors and funders; also provide regular updates on fundraising to the Executive Director.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Three years of administrative, communications, business or other relevant experience.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-focused and deadline-driven environment.
- Experience with database management, website content management systems, email marketing programs, webinar platforms (Zoom) and project management platforms.
- Thrives in multicultural environments. Able to work comfortably with diverse stakeholders and audiences, including across different ages, backgrounds, personality types, sexualities, abilities, races and ethnicities.
- Strong commitment to infusing diversity, equity and inclusion into JAWS’ operations.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in a small entrepreneurial non-profit or as a freelancer balancing multiple roles.
- Nonprofit/association management experience.

Compensation:
This is a part-time position as an independent contractor at $25/hour. Hours will not exceed 80 per month ($2,000) except by advance mutual agreement.
