Spread the word about JAWS fellowships

By Jane Isay Fellows are an important component at CAMP. They bring fresh ideas, they teach us, while we try to teach them, and we hope that they will form the next generation of JAWS members. So, if you know young journalists who meet our criteria and who would enjoy being part of our amazing organization, please encourage them to apply for the fellowships. Put the word out, continue our mission, and be sure to come to JAWS 2019 to meet our newcomers and to greet them warmly and include them in our magic CAMP. So far this year we are offering at least three fellowships: two Boylan v NYT fellowships and one Emerging Journalist fellowship. The fellowships cover transportation, lodging and conference registration, which includes most meals. This year’s conference will be held at The Williamsburg Lodge. Applicants may apply to both fellowships if applicable. Fellows also receive a one-year JAWS membership or renewal. This year, and going forward, the fellows no longer are asked to raise money to help pay their way. The application period will run from May 13 through June 28, 2019. Start preparing your applications so you’ll be ready to apply at submittable.com when the application period opens. It closes at 11:59 p.m. EDT June 28. Candidates are selected based on a combination of merit, financial need, their commitment and dedication to the field of journalism, and other fellowship-specific factors. Please note: The JAWS Emerging Journalist Fellowship is open to international journalists, but the stipend only covers domestic travel. The JAWS Emerging Journalist Fellowship is not open to undergraduate students. Graduate students may apply. We encourage undergraduates to become involved by joining JAWS at the $35 student rate and attending JAWS events and regional gatherings.
