October 2017: It’s been a privilege to serve

It’s truly been an honor to serve as president of Journalism and Women Symposium these past two years.

Serving with wonderful board members like ours is a delight, as has been working with staff members Roxanne Foster, Connie Ho, Roxann Elliot and Andrea Crowley-Hughes. Your JAWS board and staff is always working behind the scenes to strengthen this organization and improve its support of women journalists.

Meeting you earnest and enthusiastic women journalists at CAMP, regional gatherings and online is a treat. These are relationships that often last for years.

It’s been a privilege to work with all of you on issues that impact women journalists and women in general.

In the past two years, we’ve increased training opportunities for our members via webinars and regional gatherings. We’ve spoken out on issues essential to women specifically and journalism in general. We’ve shared our concerns and our solutions.

As I pass the tiara to Yumi Wilson and a new board of directors takes the lead, I know we’ll all continue to work together to strengthen each other. We’ll work for opportunities and equality for all women journalists. We’ll work to represent all the voices of society in the stories we tell.

And let’s continue to bring our women journalist friends into the fold of JAWS.

Thank you all for allowing me to serve as your president!
