Karen Michel

Karen Michel’s primary work is with NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered, where she primarily files arts features. She’s also a documentarian and transmedia performance artist with ongoing projects: “Live? Die? Kill?-3 Questions in Various Geographies” and “Stories To Go.” Currently, she is developing a podcast (who isn’t?) for and about women of at least a certain age: “Venus Over 50.”

Her start in radio came as a five year old on “Kids Say the Darndest Things.” She has a B.A. in studio art and M.Ed. in cross-cultural education. She has received fellowships and awards from the NEA, NFCB, CPB, Peabody, Fulbright, Pew Arts Journalism, state and regional arts councils, the Japan Foundation, and the NY Radio Festival, among others.
