By Lindsey Anderson, JAWS CAMP 2017 co-chair
Somehow 2016 has flown by, and we’re already preparing for the 2017 JAWS CAMP in Hot Springs, Ark., next October.
We want next year’s CAMP to inspire you, encourage you and teach you something new — but we need your help.
Do you have an idea for an awesome keynote speaker? Do you want to set up a panel or workshop? Are you itching to share your know-how on a certain topic or technology?
We want to hear from you!
JAWS is accepting submissions for panels, workshops, sessions and speakers from now until Jan. 17.
Share your ideas by filling out this form.
The 2017 CAMP planning committee will review the proposals, and we’ll let you know if your ideas were selected by late February.
We’re looking for panels and programming that cover a broad range of topics and issues facing women journalists, and that include diverse panelists and speakers reflecting the spectrum of race, age, culture, gender, media and location. Sessions can be about anything — scoring fellowships, preparing for retirement, the first year of the Trump Administration, must-have journalism apps, motherhood on deadline — and you can submit a proposal by yourself or as a team. If your suggested panel is selected, you will be the primary organizer for the session. That includes serving as the main intermediary between CAMP organizers and your panelists, holding conference calls with your speakers and gathering their bios and headshots.
Panels can include up to three speakers in addition to the moderator, or they can feature a single presenter.
A note about money: JAWS doesn’t pay for the travel costs or conference registration fee for panelists or session organizers. But JAWS can provide panel organizers and their speakers a discount off the CAMP registration fee. If a speaker isn’t a member, she’ll get a complimentary one-year JAWS membership.
We can’t wait to hear your ideas!
