Planning a trip? Renting a car? Buying a book? Ordering flowers? Do you buy from Amazon, iTunes, Hotwire, Travelocity, eBay, Best Buy, Target, Lands’ End or 1-800-Flowers? If the answer is yes, you can help the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS).
When you do your online shopping plan for Black Friday, this weekend or Cyber Monday, or anytime for that matter, you can buy all sorts of great gifts and give to the JAWS at the same time. When you do, you’ll help us pay for more fellowships, great speakers and training for women in journalism.
One way is through GoodSearch and GoodShop, and another is through AmazonSmile.
GoodShop is a gateway to merchants who sell everything from A to Z and all of it brings a cut to JAWS, up to 4 percent of your purchase, depending on the merchant. To make this even sweeter, there are often special deals and coupons for GoodShop users.
You also support JAWS if you use GoodSearch as your search engine. GoodSearch directs at least 50 percent of the revenues generated from each search to JAWS, about a penny per search. That seems like a small amount, but considering our members are journalists using the Web daily, you can see how this can add up. You can tell all your friends and family to use GoodSearch, too.
You can shop or search from the site, or download a browser plugin. You can also add the site to your toolbar on your particular Web browser, and either make it your default or an option. And, of course, there’s a GoodShop app.
Once you’re on the GoodSearch site, go to the box where it asks “Who do you GoodSearch for?” — put in JAWS or Journalism and Women Symposium. The site uses the Yahoo! search engine.
Even offline, there are ways to give to JAWS. GoodDining gives up to 6 percent to JAWS when you eat out at selected restaurants.
If you’re an Amazon addict, you can add AmazonSmile (and JAWS) to your Amazon account. When you shop with AmazonSmile, .5 percent of all eligible purchases goes to JAWS. That’s not as much as JAWS gets through GoodShop (which gives up to 1.5 percent for Amazon purchases), but every penny counts! Happy shopping and THANK YOU for helping JAWS!
