CAMP 2014 site visit

While planning CAMP 2014 in Palm Springs, we’ve jokingly said that JAWS will be taking over Hollywood’s playground. However, on a visit to La Quinta Resort and Club, we found out that it’s not a joke; La Quinta is one of the original getaways for Hollywood’s stars. If you hear typing late into the night from the room next door, it might not be a fellow JAWdess, but the ghost of Frank Capra writing the script for “It’s a Wonderful Life.” (Yes, he wrote it in one of the suites at the resort.)

When you see La Quinta next fall, you’ll understand why Hollywood stars retreated there. Each room has its own patio and fireplace. You’ll either have a private patio, or your room will open up to one of 41 pools. And all the rooms are scheduled have a new look in time for CAMP.

While the rooms are being redecorated, hotel staff also are in the midst of protecting and restoring much of the location’s original charm, such as the tiled steps. We happened upon one of the last remaining tiled steps, which resort staff will use as an example to restore others around the property.

You may want to bring your tennis racket and/or golf clubs, and there’s a spa on the resort. You also can rent a bike to get around. There are four restaurants available on-site, and you can pick your own citrus fruit right off the trees. If CAMP and the resort does not have enough to offer, Joshua Tree National Park is not far away, or you can go on a tour and see some of the desert’s amazing Postmodern architecture or see celebrities’ homes.

CAMP will be held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 at La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, Calif. (which is very near Palm Springs). Hope to see you then!
