Stephanie Hughes

Stephanie Hughes - photoStephanie Hughes is a producer for “Maryland Morning with Sheilah Kast,” a daily news magazine show broadcast on WYPR, the NPR affiliate in Baltimore. She’s also contributed to media outlets including NPR’s “Morning Edition,” “Marketplace,” Salon, “The Life of the Law,” and the New York Times Local blog. She’s reported on topics from Baltimore’s thousands of abandoned houses to the language used by state laws to describe rape. As a producer, she’s interested in citizen reporting, and has created several crowdsourcing projects that use contributions from listeners. She’s also taught radio to teenagers, and in 2012, she designed the curriculum for a two-week summer radio workshop. She used that curriculum to help teenagers with pediatric AIDS tell their stories through radio. A native of southern Delaware, Stephanie graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in communications. Before she found her way to radio, she worked in the children’s division of the publishing house Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. You can find her on Twitter @stephanie_h.
