Big news: Jill Abramson confirmed as CAMP 2013 keynote speaker

I have BIG news to share!

Jill Abramson, executive editor of The New York Times, has confirmed as our Saturday keynote speaker for 2013 CAMP at The Essex Culinary Resort & Spa near Burlington, VT, Oct. 24-27.

Jill Abramson photoMany of you named Jill as your dream speaker when we asked for suggestions in our recent CAMP evaluation survey so we are thrilled we could oblige. A big thank you goes out to the fabulous Diana Henriques, our JAWS Advisory Board member who went all out to help make this happen.

While Forbes Magazine last year ranked Abramson “only” No. 5 out of the world’s 100 most powerful women, she will always hold the distinction as the first woman to top the masthead of one of the most important newspapers on the planet.

Named executive editor in September 2011, she served previously as managing editor, helping guide the newsroom through a particularly turbulent period that included two wars, four national elections, hurricanes and oil spills. She was deeply engaged in the newsroom’s move into digital and mobile platforms, including putting up what has turned into a successful paywall, and also served as Washington bureau chief. Before she joined The Times in 1997, Abramson worked at The Wall Street Journal as a deputy Washington bureau chief and investigative reporter covering money and politics.

Abramson is the author or co-author of three books, including most recently “The Puppy Diaries: Raising a Dog Named Scout,” published in 2011.

We look forward to hosting Jill — and Scout — at this year’s Books & Browse and hope you will join us for what promises to be a fabulous JAWS CAMP.
