Upcoming NYC JAWS event: Reporting during international crises

Reportage of unrest in the Middle East, including the attacks on CBS news correspondent Lara Logan, prompted us to organize a regional meeting of JAWS members and friends. The disaster in Japan has thrown international journalism even further into the spotlight, so please join us for an informal discussion.

Date: Tuesday, March 29
Time: 6:30 – 9 p.m.
Location: Womens eNews headquarters at 6 Barclay Street, Sixth Floor in downtown New York
(For a map see: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=6+barclay+street,+6th+floor,++new+york&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=6+Barclay+St,+New+York,+10279&gl=us&z=16)

JAWS member Alaa Majeed, an Iraqi journalist, will talk about what it takes to report in a war zone. JAWdess June Cross will reflect on her recent time in Pakistan and the cultural differences that break some of the basic taboos we like to follow as reporters. We can debate why the way women journalists dress is an issue when they are harassed and how the role of women in the media may differ from that of men.

We will have some food and drink on hand. Feel free to bring a friend.

Please email Peggy at mkmcollins@gmail.com if you are going to try to attend, so that we have a headcount.

Thanks in advance to Rita Henley Jensen for providing the space. We hope to see many of you next Tuesday!
