The Sept. 5-7 conference at the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel in Bartlett focuses on strengthening journalism skills, building knowledge and improving the status of women who make news and/or shape it. Count on expert speakers, inspiring panels and hands-on training – plus some play time.

Applicants must have at least one year of professional journalism experience. Winners will be selected based on a combination of experience, merit, promise and financial need. Scholarships cover the registration fee, lodging and at least some travel expenses.

Applications must be received no later than Monday, May 19. To apply, assemble a package of your resume, a statement of up to 300 words explaining why you would like to attend, two stories or other work samples, and a letter of reference. E-mail to JAWS scholarship coordinator Carol Guensburg at carol.guensburg@verizon.net. Or, contact her at 703-812-0545 or 4439 N. 15th St., Arlington, VA 22207
